STEP 10
This set covers Dipthong combinations. A dipthong is a two vowel combination that makes a whole new sound, “aw”, “ou” and “ey”. This is the ideal time to drive home the distinctive differences between Step 7 and Step 10 flashcards. This is also the ideal time to drive home the distinctive differences between the visual similarities of some of the Jail Words from Step 8 and Step 10 Dipthong words.
The decagon…symbol…1-10
You have moved your student through the first 10 steps of the 20 step program in A Time for Phonics. This also means that we have one vertex not completed on the Decagon. To me the decagon with its radiant angles illustrates the connectivity of the previous steps. Hopefully your student has enjoyed learning how to read, write and spell these 720 words. For many children this will provide them with a tremendous advantage in establishing the basics of most common words and learning how to read new and unfamiliar words.
